Evening in Charleston Takes Attendees Back in Time

All good things must come to an end; the final evening at the ICAE Exchange is traditionally a group event.  The Charleston event was one of the best as we stepped back in time to learn more about our host city.   After the ride, an elegant dinner awaited us at McCrady’s—internationally known restaurant in one of (many) historic buildings.  While there, pirates visited us—and we learned a little more about Charleston and the many characters who called it home.

The mode of transportation as we swirled through historic Charleston? Carriage of course—each carriage took a different path through the city to learn about the history, the architecture, the dark underside (then and now)—and always, always, the people of Charleston who lived its distinguished past and help preserve the city as we know it today.

What coastal time travel would be complete without visiting with pirates? Our pirate friend (shown here with conference attendee Jen Mineo - Progressive) gave us a complete history of some of the most infamous pirates who were raised and educated (and some even returned after their pirate adventures ended—you know, those who weren’t hanged) in Charleston.

When the buccaneer stories ended, the dinner began—much to the enjoyment of all.

Who remembers when ICAE was just an idea? Well, 35 years ago it was just that and as we visit down memory lane, we thank the many consumer affairs professionals and the regulators who helped contribute to the organization’s ongoing success. Many organizations never make it past the one year mark—ICAE is hoping you’ll mark your calendars now for our year 40 celebration—place to be determined—but the year will be 2016.

A light in the window and a lantern on the sidewalk marked the end of our time travels as we left McCrady’s and we stepped back to the future…the future of ICAE. Next year: San Antonio is the destination (see announcement for dates).
