President’s Opening Remarks

Liz Perry, ICAE president, welcomes attendees to the San Diego Exchange and announces the formation of the ICAE Regulatory Advisory Council being chaired by Joy Hatchette, MD Insurance Administration. |
ICAE President Liz Perry, from Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Virginia, welcomed all to the San Diego Exchange, Finding Your Way in the World of Insurance.
Liz encouraged participants to enjoy the city and to fully explore the options this Exchange and ICAE make available—particularly the opportunities to build relationships and establish better communications between insurers and regulators. She noted that ICAE members and the executive committee are committed to keeping ICAE strong so that it can continue its 31-year tradition of addressing the major issues facing the insurance industry, with the ultimate goal of providing ethical and superior service to the consumer.
Changes within ICAE
Liz announced that ICAE’s executive committee voted in April 2007 to establish a Regulatory Advisory Council. With creation of the council, ICAE recognizes the valuable input and work the participating regulators have contributed to ICAE—even though ICAE membership is made up of insurers and associations. The Regulatory Advisory Council will help ensure regulators have a conduit to track and contribute fully to ICAE in the future.
Joy Hatchette, Maryland Department of Insurance, agreed to serve as the first chairperson of the Regulatory Advisory Council. Five additional regulators have also agreed to serve: Sandy Anderson, New York DOI; Carol Howard, Virginia DOI; Barry White, Louisiana DOI; Bob Lisson, North Carolina DOI; and Suzette Dave, Ohio DOI.
Liz thanked all regulators and insurance professionals for their support—past, present and future.
